Most people would not consider losing on a reality show a blessing. Most people are not Miranda Lambert. She was first discovered for the first season of Nashville star, back when it was on USA, back in 2003. She finished third, but was later signed by Columbia Nashville. This gave her time to prepare for her album. But this was not her first venture in Nashville. Lets find out more about this Texas lady!

Miranda Lambert was born in Longview Texas, in 1983. Lambert grew up in Lindale, Texas. Her father Rick is a retired cop who in later life became a private investigator in partnership with her mother Beverly. Miranda was taught to shoot by her father at an early age and later became an avid deer hunter. Her parents took her to a Garth Brooks concert when she was nine and this started her interest in country music. Her father wrote and performed country music and she soon began singing in talent contests under his tutelage. Miranda has a younger brother named Luke.

At age sixteen, Lambert began appearing on the Johnny High Country Music Review in Arlington, Texas, the same show that helped launch the career of Leann Rimes. Lambert quickly landed a recording session in Nashville, but left the studio after she became frustrated with the "pop" sound of music. She then went back to Texas and asked her dad to teach her how to play guitar so she could write her own songs.

While still in high school, Lambert made her professional singing debut. She fronted the house band at the Reo Palm Isle Ballroom in Longview, Texas, a long-running venue that has showcased Elvis and Willie Nelson.

The time off, gave her the opportunity to make the album she wanted. Her confidence and firepower were evident in KEROSENE: it debuted at Number One on the country charts (only the sixth time a new artist entered in at the top), and went on to earn Lambert nominations for the CMA's Horizon Award and the ACM's Top New Female Vocalist Award. It also earned her a Grammy nomination. KEROSENE garnered critical praise from countless outlets and was named one of the best albums of the year by The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Blender Magazine, iTunes, Tennessean and many more.

Most impressive, though, was the fact that Lambert, still a teenager, had written or co-written eleven of KEROSENE's twelve songs, which had the authentic feel of old-school, take-no-prisoners country music. The album marked the arrival of a major new songwriting talent. Extensive touring with George Strait and Keith Urban followed, raising her profile and sharpening her on-stage act.

The appeal of Miranda's music is the down-to-earth lyrics, infused with traditional country sounds..."My songs talk about real things," says Miranda Lambert. "Things that I've been through or I've witnessed through my friends and family - even my parents' private investigation business. If I feel it, I can sing it and make anyone believe it." -Miranda Lambert.

Your Science Lesson for Today...

Amazing striped icebergs

Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by
layers of snow that react to different conditions.

Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet
fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form.

When an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can
freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a
green stripe.

Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up
when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea.

  About Me:

I can remember talking into the built-in microphone on my boom box at the age of 13...I was "Jammin John" on WJON.  I thought I was really something...To say I always wanted to do radio is an understatement.  During High School, I locked in that decision after a year in Radio Class(thanks Mr. Ski!).  After High School, I attended Indiana Wesleyan University.  I squeezed the 4 year program into 4 and a half years.

Fresh from College, I started the job search.  I got lucky.  I started out doing afternoons in Wabash at a country station that is no longer there...I think you know the one!  During my time in Wabash, I was introduced on a blind date to my lovely wife Sarah.  Dating and working was my life.  After 2 years on afternoons, they switched me to Mornings.  I did that for another 2 years.

In December of 2003 after dating for two and a half years, on a carriage ride to see the Christmas lights in Indianapolis I proposed to Sarah...thankfully she said yes!

Then I heard of an opening in Marion.

I applied for the Truckstop shift on 99.3 WCJC.  After a couple of interviews I made my debut April 22nd, 2004 on Today's Best Country.  I loved working the request lines.  Then in August of 2004, I was asked to take over mornings after Mark Neal decided to retire after 10 years!  Talk about some shoes to fill.  But I hit the road running.

In October of 2004, I married the love of my life!  We are currently planning to start a family.

As far as the radio gig goes...I have been doing mornings for over 3 years and still love it everyday!

Interests outside the confines of my studio...

I love to play poker...Texas Hold'em.  I love to sing karaoke.  Love live country music.  Love to shoot guns and bows, bowling on the Muskrat bowling team for WCJC.  I also enjoy  Four-wheeling, and spending time with my friends and family.
